About Fuller Lake Wildlife Management Area

Fuller Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA), located in southwestern Virginia near the town of Wytheville, encompasses approximately 1,320 acres of forest, wetlands, and aquatic habitats centered around Fuller Lake. The area was originally developed as a project by the Civilian Conservation Corps and has since been managed by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources to provide quality habitat for a wide variety of species and outdoor recreation. The landscape features mixed hardwood and pine forests, several ponds, and the 39-acre Fuller Lake, which supports fishing and water-based wildlife. The WMA is an important conservation site for species such as white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and various waterfowl and amphibians. Fuller Lake WMA provides visitors with opportunities for hiking on multiple trails, fishing for warmwater species, birdwatching, and seasonal deer and turkey hunting in designated periods. The area's diverse habitats support amphibians, reptiles, and seasonal wetland plants, making it appealing for naturalists. Facilities include parking areas, primitive camping sites, and boat access points for non-motorized watercraft. The WMA holds historical significance for its Civilian Conservation Corps improvements and ongoing efforts to protect local ecosystems. It offers a quiet natural setting that appeals to day visitors, anglers, wildlife photographers, and hunters. Its location near the Blue Ridge Highlands adds to its recreational appeal, drawing outdoor enthusiasts exploring the region's greater natural offerings.
